I'm done with week 3!
Brilliant brilliant week. When I say that it means there's not much to be done and loads of time to rest. Ate loads of snacks over the week so I'm finally getting the infamous Tekong Cough and a sore throat to boot. Damn.
Actually I think the Tekong Cough is just a very normal cough but since there are loads of guys sleeping together (sounds wrong) germs and viruses get spread around easily so people get sick and don't recover that quickly.
It sounds like duh, but there are many people who have funny theories about the Tekong cough.
Anyway there was this time we were sitting down when this 2nd Seargent walked past and said hi to one of my bunk mates, who is going to ORD soon. Turns out they were from the same batch. So we were all like "Man you have contacts here."
Then a while later this guy in PT kit went past.
And he stared at me.
And he went, "Are you Xiujie?"
Wahaha it's my ex Platoon Commander LTA Na from Cougar Company! H'es a full lieutenant already which is the highest rank a NSF can get so he gets a bit of respect here and there. Everyone stared as I talked to him for a while as though we're old friends.
This evening when I booked out I went to eat out with Aaron at White Sands. I was talking to him about my week and I saw this girl at this cafe we're eating at.
"Wah that girl with white complexion and braces. She's quite cute!"
Aaron gave me that -.- face.
A while later we saw LTA Na walking around again so we asked him to join us. We talked cock for really long, and it's hard to believe 9 months ago I was "YES SIR!" and "NO SIR!" to him. We had a good and funny conversation about everything and after sometime he looked around.
"Hm.. White Sands actually has quite a few good looking girls. Wah that girl with white complexion and braces. She's quite cute!"
LOL
Must be staying in Tekong for too long I guess!

The Post which Dumped the Red Shirt and Specs
Just a quick post before I book in later this evening.
As I mentioned earlier on, our booking out and booking in timing were horrendous for this weekend. I certainly hope things improve for our next book out.
On the other hand though, having a long weekend also equates to a shorter following work week. So if you see it that way, it's some kind of double bonus. At least mentally I guess. Haha.
It's been a fun weekend, which I spend most of the time in Chengliang's place. Had a pretty good jamming session, considering we only had two guitarists and a drummer but hey the music sounded good!
So far we pulled off Harder to Breathe, Happy Birthday and a few other small pieces here and there. It's pretty cool and funny when we do play well now and then.
Only problem is that my cousin needs his guitar back soon (the electric guitar's his) so I'm not sure when will be the next time I play it again. Sigh.
Last night we had another lads' evening at Chengliang's place. Pizza, chips, no beer though to complete the works. The big match of the night was Chelsea versus Liverpool!
A really good win for us. I was nervous through out the match since there wasn't Fangyi and Audrey to boost morale in the room. So when Alonso scored I was the only one cheering in the room. LOL.

A goal scored by my favourite player no less! Well it's a bit lucky considering the deflection, but Chelsea and Lampard do that all day so they can't complain.
Next time there's another big Liverpool match I want to go to Chengliang's place to watch. We've won against Manchester United and Chelsea there already. Haha!
Well it's time to pack again. I'll be meeting Sinkiat for a late lunch before I book in back to my "holiday island".
Coincidentally, exactly 9 months ago during my first book in I also met Sinkiat at Pasir Ris for dinner before my first book in.
Just that it was dinner. This time it's lunch. Sigh. T.T

The Post which is the Mountain Thief
Week 2 down!
Well nothing much to report. Just another five days in camp. I'm bonding nicely with my section mates. They're a really funny bunch of people. Unlike other recruits we don't really "chiong" together but we get along very well.
I don't really know what to blog about since they tell us not to talk about camp life so yeah I'll leave it as that.
On the bad side, our book out was terrible today. Ferry was delayed, bus was delayed and I got home late.
And then, just before I left Tekong, I realised I actually FORGOT TO BRING MY RED GLASSES HOME!
Which means I have go out with my terrible army blackies for the next few days. T.T
On the brighter side it's a holiday on Monday (book in still early though sigh) so I'll be looking to rest and go out these few days.
The thing about staying in is, as you draw towards the end of the week you start to have a mental list of things to do over the weekend.
This week it will be jamming, good food and DoTA so it's time to get on with it!

The Post which is the Missing Giraffe Jiu Jiu
It's Sunday and 6 more hours to book in.
I remember when I first enlisted, booking out was really damn high. Maybe it was because of the consecutive confinement weeks and stuff like that but the kick of booking out never diminished.
When I booked out on Friday I didn't really feel much. Happy, yes, but by now most people are already used to the feeling of booking out and back in again so I'm a bit numb by now.
This is called being an old bird.
Back to yesterday.
Woke up then slacked around until it was time to head out with Alvin and the rest. First thing they did was to laugh at my haircut. @#$^%#
But I was wearing my beanie and when I took it off my hair was flat. Yes you heard it right, it's already long enough to lie flat. o.o
So Chengliang Alvin Renjie Yongliang all kindly came down to Cityhall to grace my first bookout of Tekong. Haha. We went down to Marina, ate and went to play pool in the very-expensive-but-not-worth-it Super Funworld.
Then there was this new game. How new I don't know since I wasn't around for the week.

RAMBO!
Hahaha I got quite a big laugh out of it. Because as a new game it's ridiculously expensive (why does everything seem expensive when you book out from Tekong) and it's just a movie version of the House of the Dead.
I'm no big fan of Rambo but all I know is BMT instructors always yell at us not to hold our rifles like him.
Audrey came a while later and then Renjie had to leave for his party. We ate at Pasta de Waraku (can't really remember the name) which had VERY NICE PIZZA!
While waiting outside the waitress served us drinks so we were crapping around as usual. Then Yongliang decided to play around then *crack* he broke the plastic cup LOL.
I hid it behind the waiting chairs so please don't fine me!
I somehow managed to port my internet connection forward so my Bittorrent is finally downloading at good speeds.
Finally finished my month-long download of Get Smart. I missed it during June so I watched it with my sister last night and it's seriously damn funny.
I left my laptop on for the whole day and finished downloading Splinter Cell (such a pirate) and then it says my graphic card is too lousy to run the game. T.T
One day I'll dump this laptop away and get a new one. For now I'm stuck to it. Sigh.

On the last note, Liverpool came back from behind AGAIN to win 3-2 against Wigan with Dirk Kuyt scoring not once (gasp) but twice!
You guys know I used to call him a golden retriever because he's blond and runs after the ball all the time but I think it's seriously time to reconsider.
Booking in at night so it's really good timing. So it'll be another week before I see you all again so have a nice week!

The Post which is a Hidden Dragon
Hello I'm back from Tekong!
Well I'm done with week one of recourse. It's been quite a good time.
First I booked in on Monday morning, lugging all my heavy stuff all the way to Tekong. We had a batch entirely made of recoursees, which means many of them are well into their army life. Some are even going to ORD in December.
We went to Dragon Company, which is really funny because Cougar is just opposite, which is my company in my first BMT. So I look over and see m familiar faces of the sergeants and the new recruits remind me of myself months ago.
First thing I did was to dig out my journal which I kept during BMT. My last post was dated back in February, on the day I posted out with Jason (wonder how he is now) and I went to eat with Vanessa. Such a long time ago!
First days was demoralising because we all had to cut our hair. Bronco, the PES B recourse company didn't have to. T.T
But our hair still longer than the recruits. Haha!
My section mates are really great. They're a funny and nice bunch of people who can slack and work hard together. My section commanders and platoon commander are all nice and friendly people so I really can't ask for more.
As you might have guess PES C2 recourse is hardly a very difficult and tiring one. With no expectations of us going to command schools and many injuries to our recoursees, all of our days are leisurely and relaxed.
Sometimes I look over to the other side and I see the new recruits running up and down. I guess many of them want to go to command school too. It makes me remember the times I had when I"chiong sua".
These few days I also see some familiar faces, such as Kritboon and Alvin Siow, who are already sergeants so it makes me think of what my army could have been like.
But it's too late for regrets! Besides being a driver is probably the most practical SAF vocation already.
Other than that, it's been a nice and slack week. Haha I'm looking forward to seeing my friends over the weekend already.
1 week down, 6 to go!

The Post which is Going Back to the Start
Tomorrow at this time I'll be back to the goddamn island of Tekong.
Actually I'm not that scared. In fact a lot of people who are in unit now always say Tekong life is the best. I'll be treating this as some sort of low-end cheapskate vacation from work. =)
I finally finished packing all my stuff. It's amazing how much you need to bring in (hopefully I won't use all of them much). Shall cab there tomorrow.
It's already 8 months since I left there. Eight! I can't believe time passes that fast. Now it's the time to finish what I didn't complete back then.
It was Cheryl's birthday yesterday and man did a crowd go. 16 of the class people and their affiliates went down to Jumbo at Riverside for lunch and squeezed into one big table.
The last time I went to eat at Jumbo was at East Coast, which I find much easier to eat at. Because everyone simply dresses down and eat like uncivilised people (I'm one of them). But nope, we were all dressed nicely so eating was a little more restrained.
All the guys were there. Suddenly everyone is taking off. Sinkiat is going to Brunei, Jiahui is going to Taiwan, Reuben is going to Australia, I'm going to Tekong (not that far but still...). Only a CERTAIN SLACKER managed to get out of course from OETI. *ahem*
But it's still great to see them!
Many of the girls also took time of their busy university schedules, I think Zhiyun and Jiahui (f) came straight down from their hostel. Tsk tsk busy huh? But university must be tough work I suppose.
After that most of us split, then Winne Jiahui Cheryl Reuben Sinkiat and me went down to Plaza Singapura to walk around as usual. Didn't watch any movies as we were all damn tired. o.o
No photos sent yet so I'll have to get them from the camera people and post them up. Most likely it's next week.
YES IT'D BETTER BE NEXT WEEK CAUSE THAT MEANS NO CONFINEMENT! Fingers crossed!! =D
I'll look forward to saving money, saving shampoo, behaving like a grunt and sleeping with a bunch of strangers and slack my next 7 weeks off.
I'll miss my bed, my family, Changi Naval Base cookhouse food and my laptop dearly. Not to mention my hair. Sigh.
One last thing, thanks to Reuben for cheering me up through my terrible mood swings these days. You're the Great One man!

The Post which is a Three Day Civilian
Second last day before Tekong.
It doesn't feel like enlistment at all. I guess after being in the army for quite a while you're no longer scared of new environments.
I remember when I first entered I was really scared. Anybody in a uniform with longer hair than I did, I'll keep quiet and stand straight. LOL. Now I know 3rd Sergeants isn't really that high ranked.
I wonder how they will treat Pes C2 recoursees who don't really care about Tekong life anymore. Hm..
Went out with my mom yesterday to the temple and we went to shop for a while. FINALLY replaced my wallet, which I've been using since Secondary 3 (I think). I've been procrastinating a lot about changing my wallet, but yup the deed is finally done.
Retail therapy works. Haha. I didn't really buy much but I feel much happier walking around.
Heck I'm a bit too carefree. I didn't even bring my camp pass out for the first time in 7 months. My hair was really long, and even though I'm going to shave again on Monday (shudders) I went for a spiky haircut on Wednesday.
Just to live as a three day civilian. =D
Got a message from my DSM's assistant that I'll go for my BMT recourse and then receive my punishment when I return. That's in December. As for what I'll receive, no one knows yet as it isn't decided for now.
I won't pretend this isn't a weight on my mind, but I'll try not to think about until the time comes.
Going to Jumbo in a while to celebrate Cheryl's birthday. Fell asleep last night before I messaged her so in case she complains here's a happy birthday to her!

The Post which Waxed and Packed
More updates about my saga.
Today I went back to camp for the first time since accident day. It seems kinda surreal to me now that the whole thing actually happened at all.
I cannot be more thankful for my unit friends, who were sympathetic, understanding and funny to make my moody and restless day much more bearable. They made jokes and tried to talk to me to make me more at ease. Thanks a lot folks!
Right now I still don't know the verdict of my case. I'm not sure about my impending punishment, which is sure to come. I'll accept what comes; after all it's really my mistake. But I just hope it will be more lenient.
Tomorrow I'm on off. Guess they don't need me around wasting their space!
I'm done with being moody and blank for the past three days. What will come will eventually do, till then I just live my life fruitfully. =)
Like I going to die like that. Haha. But it's somewhat true.
Tomorrow shall go temple to pray to rid myself with all this bad luck. I'm a strangely superstitious guy eh?
And then Saturday it will be off to Jumbo to eat. I hope my injured jaw can open wide enough to eat all the crabs heh.
Last weekend before Tekong!

The Post which is Back
I know it's strange for me to post after such a long absence but here I am.
For the past 2 months my life was, well, rather dull. I guess there isn't very much to post about unless you want to know how much I drove over the week or how I spent my usual weekend.
Add the fact that I'm heading back for my recourse BMT to Tekong next Monday, I had this feeling that this blog will be dead faster than I expected it to be. How interesting can my army life be anyway?
Just a quick update about September.
Pretty nothing much if you ask me. Been driving around as usual to different places. But there is a new influx of drivers to replace the ORD-ing batch in December. So my life in unit is much easier.
Some of you will also have noticed that I had quite a few number of offs. It's great to be able to spend my time outside but usually no one else is free. Haha.
At the end of September I had 4100km mileage, which is really impressive since I only drove for 4 months. My plans were to slack during October, enter Tekong peacefully and have a nice holiday inside, and relax for December when I get out.
Turns out no.
Without being too dramatic, yesterday evening I got into an accident.
A car accident actually. To cut a long story short I was driving in camp, wasn't paying attention during a right turn, hit a kerb, hit a lamppost.
Now that got your attention eh?
Honestly what really happened in those few seconds in the vehicle remains fragmented and unclear to me now. I was lucky to escape with just bruises and a cut.
You know that people say that the final moments before impact everything seems to be in slow motion a la Matrix-style? I tried it. It's true.
No one else was hurt thankfully. I don't think I can live with the guilt if I hit someone.
What I will receive for my punishment remains unknown but I'm assured by my officers they will try to lighten it. Now will be a true case study about the old adage that SAF drivers have one foot on the accelerator and the other foot in the detention barracks.
Meanwhile I'll like to thank all my unit buddies and friends who have helped me since last night.
Keep you all updated again.
